Word arrives at Mysteries Mansion from “Fred Jones / Will Smith” about his/her shiny new Beale Papers theory: “Yes the codes are broken! I am giving them out free for all to see at http://www.bealetreasurecodes.com ”
As everyone knows, Part 2 was decoded in the original 1885 pamphlet (though the precise details of how the decoder silently worked past where the encoder misnumbered the words in the Declaration of Independence text have caused a fair few modern cryptologists to suspect the whole thing might be some kind of hoax): but what of Parts 1 and 3? You know, the bits that say where the treasure is hidden. 🙂
If you hack through all the foliage (Jefferson? Templars? What?), Jones/Smith’s claim is that if you apply a modified part of the plaintext of Part 2 to the first few lines of Part 1 (so that “71, 194, 38, 1701, 89, 76, 11, …” maps to “INTHECOUNTYOFBEDFORDABOUTFOURMILESAQUADRANTAWAYFROMBUFORD” you get some kind of cunning mix of French and English fragments in the remainder, which (once he’s filled in the gaps) he claims reads as follows:-
In the county of bedford about four miles a quadrant away from buford then here by ahan need ban o tug de a tac foam ruth ci in en but heath narrow mount tut by aire aid t blockade utterly the lentuer stagnation defunt having hag note aerial sa middle ninth bar …
Ohhhhkayyyy… it’s at this point I throw my hands up in the air and simply point out that this looks not entirely dissimilar to Levitov’s VMs descryption (and, though GC will disagree, to Leonell Strong’s claimed VMs decryption too) – a kind of polyglot mishmash of language-like fragments, not unlike hurling a bowl’s worth of Alphabetti Spaghetti at a wall and trying to piece together the resultant letter gloop into sentence-like things. Oh well…
Smith/Jones has put up two (quite big) pages already with more planned over the next few days/weeks: perhaps he/she will have plenty of surprises for us for Part 3. We shall see!
Very Strong indeed…
I can imagine that someone runs a decryption attempt, and comes up with:
“here by ahan need ban o tug de a tac foam ruth ci in en but heath narrow mount
tut by aire aid t blockade utterly “.
I just cannot imagine that someone actually writes:
“here by ahan need ban o tug de a tac foam ruth ci in en but heath narrow mount
tut by aire aid t blockade utterly” and then encrypts it.
Rene [Nick?] I read the site about here by ahan. Question Why did you tell the people what those words really mean. They tell a story dont they. why don’t you give a solution! Instead of putting something down which you don’t know nothing about. Are you one of those webs which have nothing to say but selling a book with nothing in it??
Interestingy IN THE COUNTY OF BEDFORD JOINTLY can be decoded by one of my six keys,
83=11
1629=18+11+5=34=H
48 =12+18+5=35=I
94 =13+12+5=30=D
63 ` = 9+13+5=27=A
132 = 6+ 9+5=20=T
16 = 7+ 6+5=18=R
111 = 3+ 7+5=15=O
95 =14+ 3+5=22=V
84 =12+ 14+5=31=E
Ive used this simple decode as example i have longer decodes, Ive put other keys on other sites but no responses if any interest i put more on this site,i have a name 16 letters apartand plot letters but no cemetry name,what can i do with it.
Hi Stanley,
Not sure how your “six keys” work, feel free to post a link or a comment here describing what you’re doing, there are always plenty of people looking for the Beale treasure. 🙂
Cheers, ….Nick Pelling….
Thank you,I have six different keys that unlock sensible seintences,surely its not too hard to add the code number digits together
1629=1+6+2+9=18
then add the sum of the previous code number
83=11+18=29then+5=34
which in the alphabet=H
ive posted decodes on other sites over time you are only one to reply,i now realise my decodes are too complicated even singh didnt reply what would you do if you had the name of a grave and the plot initials ive only found one relative in 1822 in a grave search in Rose cemetryVA,if you still cant understand my keys which show the keys to decypher are in the preceeding numbers i dont know where the number five comes from but its common to this bit
here is an easier one to work on
71-7+1=8+7=15=O
194=14 +7=21=U
38=11 +7=18=R
1701=9 +7=16=P
89=17 +7=24=X
76=13 +7=20=T
11=2 +7= 9=I
83=11 +7=18=R
1629=18 +7=25=Y
48=12 +7=19=S
94=13 +7=20=T
OUR PIT TRYST, I dont know where the seven comes from it could be the first digit of the code, Thanks again stan
Im puzzled ive given the key to decode parts of the Beale treasure location code and no one can understand it,all six keys ive got are based on the number before the one you are decoding,there is no numbered book, Ive decoded enough of the code to know i am on the right track,besides this is the only shown leads on any web site, i dont know why im bothering even if i get the whole message what can i do with it,and what is a TWO TON KIT TEAM,
surely some one is trying to work out how ive managed to decode so much when no one else had any idea in nearly two hundred years,
The problem with all decoding attempts that claim to be able to decode fragments is working out whether each individual claim is statistically significant or not.
I am looking at your claim, but I just need a little more time…
coming across these old messages i realise i never said the added number
related to numbering the alphabet A can be 1, 27, 53, and so on,after getting only one reply ive given up working on the codes especialy now they have been proved to be a hoax.although why did alan Poe give a grave name and location,
Are you interested in updating your website based on new evidence and arguments that rebut the popular arguments against the Beale Treasure Story?
If so, have a look at the page “Arguments and Counterarguments” found on my website http://www.BealeTreasureStory.com

LOOING BACK ON MY
MESSAGES I WONDER WHY NO ONE HAS CARRIED ON DECODING ANY MORE OF THE TREASURE LOCATION CODES, IM CONVINCED E A POE WROTE THEM ON THE EVIDENCE HE USED THE SAME IDEA IN ONE OF HIS STORIES, HE ENCODED A CODE USING SIX DIFFERENT KEYS AND EACH KEY WAS PROGRESSIVLY HARDER TO CRACK,IVE GOT THE NAME OF A GRAVE BUT IT WAS THE HARDEST KEY TO FIND,
SURPRISE SURPRISE Ive written a book explaining five of my code keys,in the fact that no one else has ever published anything exept the gillogy strings ive decided to let others get the credit, my solutions cant be put down to coincidence,buy the book Starship Stowaway when it comes out and be the first to find out the complete solution,the sixth key clues to the plot letters and name are in the book Stan Clayton
funnily enough IN THE COUNTY OF BEDFORD JOINTLY OWNED decodes using some of my keys. 208=10
195=15+10=25+10=35=I
145=10=15=25+15=40=N
1=1+10=11+9=20=T 94=133+1=14+20=34=H
73=10+13=23+34=57=E
416=11+10=21+34+55=C
918=18=11+ 29+5584+9
356=14
117= 9+14=23+9=32=F
136=10+ 9=19+9=28=B
219=12+10=22+9=31=E
27= 9+ 12=21+9=30=D
176=14+ 9 =23+9=32=F
YOU CAN SORT THE REST OUT IVE GIVEN YOU THE IDEA DOUBLING OR ADDING THE PREVIOUS CODE NUMBER WILL GIVE LOTS MORE DECODES,OR READ MY BOOK,
STAN CLAYTON
_
now ive found the letter from St Louis I can prove there are messages in the Beale treasure location code,and the details are shown in my bookout soon renamed BEALE TREASURE CIPHER SUCCESS;Everyone will kick them selves the letter has been right under our noses all the time, stan clayton
IVE DONE IT AGAIN THE NAME( OLD POE) HAS CROPPED UP USING THE SAME KEY THAT GAVE ME O.P.Q.R.S.IN THE GILLODGY STRINGS, Stan Clayton
An analysis of the errors deciphering code 2 are very revealing. In the appendix to my book, “The Jefferson Mysteries, Declaration of Independence” I present a logical argument that the code was written by Beverly Hemings in response to his father’s hypocrisy.
Ronald: sorry to have to ask, but which bits of your book are historical fact and which bits are historical fiction? Without that kind of basic framework to build upon, I have no idea what to make of your claim / logical argument.
I’ve completely solved the TBP, but just giving it all away would be boring…but I do understand that people come on here to huck their books- so I understand why people might be dubious of my claim. I have the advantage however because I know who wrote the Papers.
Here’s something to chew on;
Cipher #2 has never been solved (well, I’ve solved it.. but I’m not telling yet). The numbers provide a narrative yes, but the narrative itself is the actual cipher.
Who was Robert Morris…who indeed…
I welcome thoughtful questions and may even illuminate some of my answers if they are specific enough.
Take a second look at #2’s “answer” and see if you notice what I’ve noticed.
